This is a statement sent to the press in response to a press release by the RNC that they would issue sanctions against New Hampshire by withholding delegates to the convention.
"The decision announced by the Republican National Committee to penalize states who hold their primaries before February 5th by withholding delegates is regrettable. This decision further serves to emphasize the importance to New Hampshire of being represented within the RNC by a team which includes a National Committeewoman who can bring a strong, articulate, and persuasive voice to the debate."
"New Hampshire will not allow its tradition of opening the primaries for presidential candidates to be diluted or ignored. New Hampshire's Republican State Chairman, National Committeeman, and National Committeewoman need to present a united front to preserve and protect New Hampshire's right to set it's own date for our first-in-the-nation primary, which has served the country and the democratic process so well for over eighty years, and to avoid unnecessary sanctions against local Republicans who are ensuring the continuation of this tradition."
-- Phyllis Woods, Candidate for RNC National Committeewoman
